Summary

On-Site session aims to deliver the knowledge of how neurons works (How the electrical signals are transmitted from the brain to the rest of the body) . In order to demonstrate a Neuron network.

What You'll Need

We will need :

1- Micro-Bit Board

2- Wires

3- Power-Bit Wrest band

4- Presentation

The Instructions

Introduction

In this section, we introduce the participant to the place and to the topic of the session.

1- We will start with an Ice-Breaking question.

2- Then we will ask them about the need of being inspired.

3- Then we will let them tell us about how the thoughts are formed inside their head.

4- Thoughts are a chemical release in the brain, which generate an electrical signal in the neurons, This signal will propagate like a wave to thousands of neurons.

5- Explain the neurons as an information messenger uses electrical pulses and chemical signals.

6- Then we will describe the human brain as a complex organ weight up to 3 pounds and are formed out of water and fats.

7- Then we will show them a video about the human brain.

8- Then we will ask them for an example of a human made thing that can mimic the brain.

What we will be doing today

In this section, we will describe the prototype we are about to build and the needed component in need.

1- We will be building a neuro-network able to communicate between each other using 3 Micro-Bit.

2- Then we will list the needed component to build the Neuro-Network.

3- Then we will describe each component aside.

4- The power bit is going to be connected with the Micro-Bit to power it.

5- The push button are going to work as the stimulated of the neuron.

6- The Micro-Bit are going to be the Neuron that receive and transmit the message.

7- Then we will show a video describes the Micro-Bit and its capabilities.

8- Then we will start coding the Neuron using Make-Code Platform.

9- We will start by accessing the Make-code platform.

10- Then we will ask the participant to create a new project.

11- The first thing to do is to create the variable and the array.

12- Then we will put the initial values for the Array index.

13- Then we will explain the meaning of the Array.

14- Then we will code the input pins, and we will save their values to a variable.

15- Then we will add the value for the final result through an equation related to the array we have created before.

16- Then we will add a condition for each result we will get from the equation.

  • The result are going to be weather a 1, -1 ,or 0.

17- Then we will show the codes for each neuron.

Neuron 1 :

Neuron 2 :

Neuron 3 :

18- Then we will ask each 3 participant to work together on the assembly.

19- Then we will show them the circuit they have to connect.

20- Then we will show the participant how the circuit works.

Standards

  • (Fab-Programming.1): I understand the basic structure of a simple program and can modify values, variables, or other parameters to alter its output, function, or behavior.
  • (Fab-Electronics.1): I can follow instructions to build a simple electrical circuit using conductive material, basic components, and power.
