Summary

In the previous assignment I already made a 3D object out of 2D pieces, so this week I have explored engraving and live hinges.

What You'll Need

Tools: CAD and laser cutter.

Materials: acrylic and 3mm plywood.

The Instructions

Prepare the designs

Use CAD to prepare 2 designs.

Use CAD to prepare 2 designs: a screw measuring card (adapted from a Thingiverse design) in Autocad and a mock book cover with Inkscape. Be aware of layers and their cut order.

Import to laser cutter software

Import to laser cutter software

Import to laser cutter software and check the position on laser bed, the order of the layer, the dimensions…

Cut

Send file to cut.

Send file to cut. Enjoy the result.
