This activity is designed to help students getting familiar with the process of making a vinyl sticker using the Cricut machine. It teaches students to create their own vector design through Inkscape and the setting they need to configure before sending the vinyl cutter for printing. The other skills needed are the transferring and weeding.

What You'll Need

  • Design skills using Inkscape
  • Cricut Machine
  • Cricut Design Space apps


The Instructions


The first step is to create a design in a vector image format using Inkscape.

  1. Install the Inkscape software in your device.
  2. Design the image that you would like to be sent to the vinyl cutter machine.
  3. You need to save it as a vector image (.svg). 


Setting the size

Once you have completed the design, check the measurement that you preferred.

Set the height and width of the design according to your preference.

Send for printing

Setting the vinyl and size

  1. Measure and cut the vinyl film according to the desired measurement.
  2. Paste the vinyl film to the mat.
  3. Place the mat to the Cricut feeder.



This is the step to peel the printed design on the vinyl film to the sticker

  1. Measure the transparent sticker and paste it on the printed mat.
  2. Use the scraper to remove air bubble on the sticker.
  3. Slowly peel off the sticker and make sure the design will attach to the transparent sticker. Use the weeder for tiny details on the vinyl film


Stick it!

This is the last step of this activity!

Once the printed vinyl film has been transferred to the transparent sticker, stick it to your handphone casing and enjoy!


  • (5.MD.C5b): Apply the formulas V = l x w x h and V = b x h for rectangular prisms to find volumes of right rectangular prisms with whole-number edge lengths in the context of solving real world and mathematical problems.
