Summary

Smart Dustbin means when we go in front of dustbin it get open automatically due to use of Ultrasonic Sensor, Servo Motor & Arduino.

In this Workshop students learn how to make Smart Dustbin by using Arduino, Servo motor, Ultrasonic Sensor.

Students learn what is Arduino, Inputs and Outputs, Ultrasonic Sensor concepts.

What You'll Need

Material which use to make Automatic Fan ON & Off by detecting Temp.

–      Arduino UNO

–      Servo Motor 180 degree

–      Ultrasonic Sensor

–      Wires

–      Adapter 9V 1A

–      Soldering Gun

–      Wire Cutter / Stripper

The Instructions

Make connection of Arduino, Servo Motor & Ultrasonic Sensor.

Vcc of Ultrasonic Sensor to 5V of Arduino. - Trig & echo pin of Ultrasonic Sensor connect with pin 5 & pin 6 of Arduino resp. - GND of Ultrasonic Sensor & Black wire of Servo Motor connect with GND of Arduino. - Yellow wire of Servo Motor connect with 7 pin of Arduino. - Red wire of Servo Motor connect to 3.3V of Arduino. Connection of Arduino & Ultrasonic Sensor Arduino Ultrasonic sensor 5V Vcc Pin 5 trig Pin 6 echo GND GND Connection of Arduino & Servo Motor Arduino Servo Motor 3.3V Red wire Pin 7 Yellow wire GND Black wire

Discuss with student how much they know about sensors, Input and Output Concepts.

Cut the cardboard lid of dustbin in Laser Cutter

Cut the cardboard of size opening of Dustbin in laser cutter by making its design in Inkscape design software.

Introduce them with Inkscape design software & Laser cutter machine. See that they cut parts properly or not.

Make final assembly of all connected device in Dustbin.

Cut the cardboard of size opening of Dustbin. Place that cardboard on Dustbin & put Servo motor on the Cardboard lid. Make sure Cardboard lid must be open & close properly. And put all devices properly in dustbin.

Help Students for attaching all devices to dustbin.

Upload program in arduino board & test it.

Now, see our smart dustbin is working properly or not. If it is not working properly then see where we have to make changes in program.

Introduce them with Arduino Device & Its programming language. Tell them how to do program for sensor & Servo motor. Help them uploading the program.

Now our Smart Dustbin is ready.

Standards

  • (MS-ETS1-1): Define the criteria and constraints of a design problem with sufficient precision to ensure a successful solution, taking into account relevant scientific principles and potential impacts on people and the natural environment that may limit possible solutions.
  • (MS-ETS1-2): Evaluate competing design solutions using a systematic process to determine how well they meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.
