Summary

On the first day, participants will get introduced to 3D design and is its importance in relating to digital manufacturing in the fashion sector.

Also, participants will be introduced to different types of design software and know why there are many types and what each one is dedicated for and explore the nervous system platform.

In the end, they will be introduced to the Onshape 3D modeling web-based tool and how it can be used to create designs relating to fashion.

The Instructions

Day 1 - 3D Design in fashion sector.

1- Welcome Participants to class and take the attendance. 2- Make sure all participants have Blender accounts and assist them. 3- Explain laser cutting technology and show a video about it relating to fashions. 4- Show participants different laser cut projects.

Tell participants more details about the camp, like how many days they have to attend and what they will learn during the camp.

Show them some pictures of digitally manufactured fashion.

Show participants a video about fashion and digital manufacturing to let them gain a deeper understanding of the camp

Design

Explain to participants the importance of design and its role in our world. introduce some design software

for example, say to them when you pass beside construction you may see a big picture of the final shape of it, it may be a mall or tower, but how they managed to get the final design of that building before completing it.

so the participants will know that the design is the thing that will enable us to get a clear image of what we want to build whatever if it is fashion, car, aerospace, or construction.

introduce some design software

Nervous is an online tool that will help participants to explore some fashion and accessories that can be 3D printed, also they will be able to customize it.

Onshape

Introduce Onshape: User interface. Planes and camera view. 2D design tools.

Explain Onshape and show the main interface :

Onshape is a computer-aided design software system, delivered over the Internet via a Software as a Service model.

Ask students to create accounts and help them

Day 2 - Laser technology and fashion design

In this session, participants will get introduced to 3D printing technology and how it can be used in the fashion sector, also they will learn how to use 3D design tools in Onshape to create 3D objects in relation to fashion such as patterns and tie and export it as STL file.

Day 3 - Onshape and 3d printing

In this session, participants will get introduced to 3D printing technology and how it can be used in the fashion sector, also they will learn how to use 3D design tools in Onshape to create 3D objects in relation to fashion such as patterns and tie and export it as STL file.

Day 4 - Fashion accessories and design

On the fourth day, participants will be asked to create different 3d designs relating to fashion using Onshape such as belt, bag, patterns, and other accessories.

ask participants to design a belt or bracelete

Day 5 - Final project

Participants will use the knowledge and skills they learned before conducting their final project of a modern design related to fashion that can be laser cut or 3D printed such as accessories and wearables.

Standards

  • (Fab-Modeling.1): I can arrange and manipulate simple geometric elements, 2D shapes, and 3D solids using a variety of technologies.
  • (Fab-Fabrication.1): I can follow instructor guided steps that link a software to a machine to produce a simple physical artifact.
  • (Fab-Design.1): I can be responsible for various activities throughout a design process within a group under instructor guidance.
