Summary

In this series of workshops, participants will attend 5 days, each day they will have a 1-hour session to learn about VR and its applications, then they will be introduced to 3D modeling software and learn how to create a virtual scene related to Islamic costumes.

What You'll Need

  • Equipment: Computer, Internet connection
  • Software: Vectary https://www.vectary.com/

The Instructions

Day 1 - 3D modeling and VR

Virtual Reality is considered an important technology that gives excellent scope to diverse fields. In this session, participants will be introduced to VR and its applications. In the end, they will be introduced to 3D modeling software and learn the process to create a virtual scene related to Islamic costumes.

  • Introduce the Engineering Design Challenge.
  • Briefly explain the camp idea and activities.
  • Introduce VR, and what is VR
  • Introduce the main types of VR.
  1. Fully-Immersive.
  2. Simi-Immersive.
  3. Non-Immersive.
  • Show different fields of using VR, education sport, gaming, and training.
  • Introduce Vectary software.
  • Show participants different projects made in Vectary.
  • Ask participants to create accounts on Vectary.
  • Give the participants the time to explore the software.

Non-immersive simulations are often forgotten as an actual type of VR, because it’s very common in our everyday lives.

The average video game is technically considered a non-immersive virtual reality experience. Think about it, you’re sitting in a physical space, interacting with a virtual one.

Semi-immersive experiences provide users with a partially virtual environment to interact with. In this example, the instruments in front of the girl are real and the windows are screens displaying virtual content.

It’s important to keep in mind that semi-immersive VR simulations still give users the perception of being in a different reality.

a fully immersive experience – complete with head-mounted displays, headphones, gloves, and maybe a treadmill or some kind of suspension apparatus.

day 2 - Personalize your 3D avatar

To create a virtual scene, participants will get introduced to the basics of 3D modeling in Vectary software and learn how to create basic 3D objects and import 3D models such as the related to Islamic dress to customize their 3D character.

  • Welcome Participants to class and take attendance.
  • Make sure all participants have accounts.
  • Introduce 3D modeling
  • Explain Object mode and introduce basic objects inside the software.
  • Explain how to interact with objects, rotate, scale, moving and change the camera view, and rotate it
  • Explain how to move objects, change their color, and modify them.
  • Explain how to add a background.
  • Show participants how to open the character and built-in projects.
  • Show participants how to modify the character such as modify its shape, color, and accessory.
  • Explain to participants how to import 3D Objects.
  • Share the link of files students will import.
  • Explain how to download the files from the link.
  • Challenge your participants to modify the character and import the Islamic costumes.
